MAT/Stewards Committee | April 21, 2021

Our new leadership has been hard at work setting up our new Steward program, which will be integrated into a new Member Action Team structure that includes 'MAT Leaders' who have not yet completed the Steward training (click here to enroll in the next class).

Our long-term goal is for each Local 768 member to be assigned a Steward or MAT Leader who will:

  • Serve as initial contact and support
  • Be able to respond to issues promptly
  • Maintain regular communication

With this in place, we will be able to enforce our contracts more effectively and even be more ambitious in what we demand from our employers.

For this to work, we can't afford to have Stewards and MAT Leaders overwhelmed and burnt out, so we'll be limiting the assignments to a manageable number (AFSCME recommends about 20 members per leader), and providing on-going support and training.

Our monthly agenda will be:

  • Review local-wide trends in
    contract violations
  • Brainstorm selected case-studies
  • Ongoing training on the MAT
    Leader & Steward’s roles
