I am Carmen De León, a DC 37 member of 10 years, currently working at Harlem Hospital as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. I believe that our current local is fractured and out of touch with the majority of its members. Our team has come together to lead Local 768 in a new direction with the goal of building unity, and collaboration with its members. My name is Charlton H.L Smith. I have been an Associate Public Health Sanitarian at DOHMH for over 10 years, and I was a Public Health Sanitarian for 8 years before that. I have been an active union member, a Shop Steward from 2010 to present and served as 2nd Vice President from 2014-2017, and I am proud to be a part of our new leadership team. I am committed to continue the work of building a stronger union, enforcing our contracts, negotiating good contracts and involving our members in every aspect of our union.

I am a Supervising Public Health Advisor with School Health Vision Program. I have been working with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for over 25 years. I am proud to have been elected with this team of leaders because we are a group of people who are willing to work for the members and involve them in the decisions that matter.
I've been a Social Worker at Harlem Hospital for 11 years, working on inpatient medical units doing discharge planning. I've been a Shop Steward for about 8 of those years, and its been the most rewarding way I've participated in our union. With the support of our DC37 Reps, I've successfully defended members in disciplinary hearings and convinced managers to make fair accommodations for our members. We've also sought out the most common contract violations at our hospital (systematically surveying for payroll and time-keeping errors, for example) and built unity around issues that go beyond what our contracts can guarantee. We can win a lot with this simple strategy, and as 2nd Vice President, responsible for organizing and Shop Stewards, I plan to transform our Stewards program & Chapters into much more powerful tools.

As a Labor Standards Investigator at the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection I help workers win back stolen wages when their rights have been violated by their employers under NYC labor law. I have been a DC37, Local 768 member for two years and have served as a shop steward for the past year. My most meaningful union experiences have been organizing coworkers for health and safety in the middle of this pandemic, which was informed by two years as a shop steward at my previous job and a background in Labor at CUNY’s School of Labor and Urban Studies. As Recording Secretary I am responsible for maintaining union minutes and communications, to not only provide members transparency and accountability for the decisions made as a union, but to actively listen and work with my union brothers and sisters to provide the tools you need to make a difference.

I have been a public health sanitarian for three years and a shop steward for Local 768 for 2 of those years. I have been treasurer for a couple of organizations in the past and look forward to bringing my skills to serve this Local. I believe in maintaining a transparent and balanced budget and as treasurer of Local 768, I hope to make a local that can identify and meet all of its members’ needs.
I started working for HHC in 1988 at Elmhurst Hospital as an office aid. I later became Tech Support II, and since 1997 have been a Civil Service Medical Records Specialist. In my 30 yrs journey, many things have happened, and I've never been able to just sit and watch wrong stay wrong. I have used my voice and have gained respect from all levels of my colleagues and Administration. I have addressed my co-workers' issues as if they were mine, and with our new leadership team, I will continue to help members be heard on a higher level.
I am an Associate Public Health Sanitarian in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, where I have worked for over 20 years. I have been trained as a Shop Steward and proud to serve our membership as an Executive Board Member and Delegate to DC37
I've been a Public Health Sanitarian at DOHMH for a total of 15 years, and served as a Delegate to DC37 for the past 6 years. In addition to my work at DOHMH, I also worked in environmental health and industrial hygiene at NYCHA and the private sector for 8 years. As an active member and as a Delegate, I have used my professional experience to aggressively advocate for our colleagues, especially in the areas of health and safety. As an Executive Board Member, I will continue this focus, supporting all our members in performing our jobs as safely as possible.
I am a Shop Steward and a Respiratory Therapist at Woodhull Medical Center. I ran for Sergeant at Arms because maintaining order is my strong suit. As a Steward for 4 years and a member for 12 years, I have experienced too many meetings where members' were shouted at and demeaned. Our new leadership team is committed restoring the proper functioning of our Local - including following Roberts Rules of Order - and making sure our members' voices matter
I have worked at Queens Hospital for the last 17 years as a social worker and have been an active Union member for many years. We are living in challenging times and I am excited to be part of a team that unites our Local and are ready to address our work inequities & disparities. It is time to mobilize!
I'm a member of Local 768 for 17 years and counting at Bellevue Hospital and on the Executive Board for the past 3 years. Being a delegate has always been an interest of mine because all locals meet with DC37 leadership to address the deeper issues that affect the union as a whole.
My name is Charles Forrest and I have been a Labor Standards Investigator (Inspector) at the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) for two (2) years. I have seen the power of union representation for workers and want to be an effective representative for you by increasing union access, accountability, and engagement.
I'm a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist Level II at Rikers Island Correctional Facility where I've worked for 7 years now. I've been a member of DC37 Local 768 since 2016, when Rikers became a Health+Hospitals site. I've since taken the Shop Steward training, and have always fought hard to be a voice for my colleagues who are often unheard.
I'm a Dental Assistant at Health+Hospitals / Harlem, where I've worked for over 12 years. I've been a Shop Steward for Local 768 for many years, including completing the Advanced Stewards training offered by DC37. I'm proud to have been elected Delegate to the AFL-CIO Central Labor Council to help be a voice for our Local in the broader labor movement of New York City. As a Trustee I will independently review our financial statements to ensure that members' dues are being used for our benefit!
