ICE Out of Minnesota

On January 23, an estimated 50,000 people marched in Minneapolis, demanding ICE out of Minnesota. Hundreds of clergy members were arrested in acts of civil resistance at the Minneapolis St Paul airport. Read more: In The Twin Cities, A Massive Strike Against ICE | Labor Notes (Photo: Labor Notes)

Since 2024, unions have been building their muscle, working together in coalitions, working toward what we can win if we all work together. We’re doing the same in NYC – join us on February 21 for solidarity school. Register here.

Solidarity with Striking Nurses

On Monday, January 12, nearly 15,000 NYC private sector nurses went on strike at Mount Sinai, NY Presbyterian and Montefiore hospitals.

Our local stands in solidarity with the nurses on strike who are fighting to protect patient and nurse safety. On February 3, 2026, our Local 768 executive board passed a resolution to demand that hospital management come to the bargaining table in good faith to sign a fair contract and to contribute to NYSNA’s hardship strike fund. Please support as well:

  1. Join the picket line! A strong picket line is essential to winning the strike and puts nurses’ resolve and the community’s support on display. The busiest times for allies to join the picket line are 12‑3 p.m., but join us at whichever strike picket location and time is most convenient for you. https://www.nysna.org/news/take-action-support-nyc-nurses-strike
  2. Email the CEOs of Montefiore, Mount Sinai, and NewYork-Presbyterian to let them know that we stand in solidarity with NYSNA nurses here.
  3. Contribute to the NYSNA hardship strike fund, at https://nysna.tfaforms.net/5111001

May Day Solidarity School

Billionaires are stealing from working families, destroying our democracy, and building private armies to attack our towns and cities. Just like with any bad boss, we can stop the takeover with powerful collective actions. Join May Day Strong for a May Day Solidarity School on Saturday, February 21st, 2026. The school will take place from 9am to 5pm at Murry Bergtraum High School, 411 Pearl St. in Manhattan. Register here.

Black History, Black Resistance: Rest in Power Claudette Colvin

This Black History Month, we honor the memory of Claudette Colvin, who died on January 13. On March 2, 1955, at age 15, Claudette Colvin was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on the bus to a white person in Montgomery, Alabama. She ignited a spark. Months later, Rosa Parks was arrested and became the face of the movement. Claudette Colvin’s lawsuit eventually helped halt segregation on Montgomery buses. She moved north, to New York City, and became a healthcare worker and proud member of a sister union, 1199. She said, “What I tell young people is that you should always stand up for what you think is right regardless of the consequences. You never know if your actions might light a spark.” Read more: Sitting Down, Standing Strong

Unit Bargaining

For New York City workers, in addition to our contract that covers all DC37 members, we participate with other locals that represent Social Services and Health Services workers in something called Unit Bargaining. Local 768 began discussing our Unit Contract ideas shortly after ratification of the 2021-2026 Economic Contract in the Spring of 2023. We launched our Bargaining Committee, developed our proposals and a bargaining survey together. The process was stalled by then lame-duck Mayor Adams. We’re restarting now that we’ve elected Mayor Mamdani.

How can we distill our priorities into a short summary that everyone in our bargaining unit can remember and keep repeating over and over to anyone in management who will listen? Share your ideas, and let’s build our unity to win.
