City Charter
Members of Local 768,
This coming November as voters you will be asked to vote on five amendments to the City Charter. What is the New York City Charter? Why does this matter? Over the next couple of months before heading to the polls to vote, information will be given about the amendments, so that we are informed voters. The first time I voted I was very proud to vote. I had no clue as to what those paragraphs on the back of the ballot which I was expected to vote on, had to do with me.
The New York City Charter (aka the New York City Constitution) defines how the city is organized, how it functions, its powers, its institutions, and key processes of City government. It is how our city government is held accountable, and how it functions. The New York City charter affects our daily lives through, the decisions regarding Public Safety, and Criminal Justice to Housing and Land Use, Economic Equity and more.
In upcoming bulletins, we’ll talk about amendments, show what the changes may mean, and the impact it can have on each of us as residents of New York City, and as members of DC37 Local 768.
In solidarity,
Carmen De León, President and Local 768 Leadership Team, DC37, AFSCME
Front Line & Fearless: AFSCME 46th International Convention
At AFSCME’s International Convention, August 12-16, in Los Angeles, AFSCME members from throughout the United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico came together in solidarity and passed resolutions to build a stronger, more united labor movement.
Bargaining for Power
DCWP inspectors held a 10-minute meeting to discuss their contract priorities. Members are also meeting at H+H and other worksites.
Chapter Leadership Elections
The Local 768 Election Committee oversaw the elections for the following officers of four Chapters. Congrats to Martha Larson, Whitney Walton, Joya Joseph, Michael Vizcaino, Keeshone McLaurin, and Jacquelyn Millette. Read more here.
H+H Pay Dates
H+H pay date for our 3% increase is this Friday, August 30. However, there will be a further delay in pay for about 335 members at H+H who had a change in status in 2024, for example FMLA leave. The time needs to be manually calculated. Salaried wage employees will be paid 3% increase and retro on 10/11/24 and hourly wage employees will be paid on 10/18/24.
